Hey one of my friends told me that best buy changd its service plans, the one you buy in addition to what it comes with. Does it make it harder to replace your items or is he just blowing smoke?

The service plan has not changed...

Generally, you can return most items within 30 days no problem... some items, such as GPS's, computers, camcorders, radar detectors, etc can be returned within 14 days, and will have a 15% restocking fee.

Service and replacement plans will either fix or replace the item, most last 2-4 years... they usually cost about 10% of the item cost when you buy it.

You can also get an accidental damange plan on cameras and laptops.

In all cases, if you have a service plan, you can bring the item back to Best Buy instead of fighting with the manufacturer.

My brother works at Best Buy so I can tell you safely that the Best Buy product replacement plan makes returning items a lot smoother. Lets say you purchase a Xbox 360. If you buy the product replacement plan, you can take in your broken Xbox 360 and get it replaced immediately. It really is that simple. It also doesn't cost that much anyways and it lasts for a very long time. You also don't have to purchase another replacement plan for the product you had replaced, it just rolls over to the next one given to you.
