We should never have to fill out deposit/withdraw slips, etc. Those aren't for us it's their paperwork. If they really need a hard copy, they should be able to print something out with that info already filled in. The most they should ever need from us is a signature and some ID.

I've noticed that they'll reluctantly fill these out for you. I usually claim to have carpal tunnel, or I’m “uncomfortable filling this out”. Seems like they're just wasting everyone’s time.

Whoa, okay. I think a lot of you are missing the part where I mention that the bank should print out something for you to sign. You shouldn't have to fill out a damn thing. You check the little printout and if it's okay, you sign it. It would take far less time than filling stuff out by hand.

The banker would type in an amount and hit print. Why is that stressful or wasting time?

Oh, and some peole don't use checks. So they don't have the checkbook with the deposit slips... They have to get the slip from the banker, fill it out, and hand it back. Hell, my bank makes me fill in the damn address every time. They have all that in the computer sitting right in front of them.

because they are too lazy to do it themselves.
the banks won't hire enough people to do the work that needs to get done - that's not my problem!
let the line behind you get as long as possible and let the banker do their own job. it's not like they help you with your job that you get paid for.
Bank of America is one of the worst banks for 5dollaring you to death so i moved to Patriot. they don't have all the 'bells and whistles' but they do what they need to do.

It is in the customer's own interests and safety of his funds that he fills in all particulars correctly in the required forms. For instance, you wanted to withdraw 1000 dollars and asked the bank official to fill the form and you put in your signature for drawing, and the bank official puts in the figure as 10,000 dollars intentionally , delivers you 1000 dollars and pockets the rest, you will be the looser. You will not be in a position to contest the fraudulent withdrawal in any court of law.Likewise whether it is paper work related to deposit of cash, deposit of cheques, issue of demand draft or other remittances from your account, it is in your own interests that all the paper work is done by you. These procedures in the banking operations have been laid out by rule makers based on their long experiences in banking and are designed to protect the interests of their valued customers.

You should switch to Bank of America. They don't need slips for anything--you just swipe your ATM card at the teller window, hand them your money (cash, checks, etc.) and they count and deposit it for you. They have really cool ATMs too. You don't need envelopes or deposit slips if you make a deposit in the ATM. You just feed your cash or check into the machine, and it counts (cash) or scans (check) and reads it and tells you how much you deposited. If you deposit a check, it prints a scan of it on your recipt. It's cool. :)

And I agree with you about filling out deposit slips. I'm giving you MY money to keep in your stupid bank...I'm doing YOU a favor. The least you could do is fill out my deposit/withdrawal form for me!

Use the deposit slips in the back of your checkbook. It already has your acct number on it. All you do is fill out the amount. How much time does it take you to take an extra minute to add your acct num to the bank slip anyway?

You would not feel that way when your bank account is emptied out and the Bank did not bother to have any paperwork to show who made the withdrawal.

ADD: A signed document is harder to dispute than a computer generated reciept. Since they are not using a PIN like an ATM, they are relying on an extra security precaution

I think they do it as an efficiency thing as well as to have responsibility for the accuracy of the information with you. As you have discovered, they will fill it out for you if you ask. I'd lighten up and just ask them nicely to fill it out if you are not concerned about the other issues mentioned in the other responses.

If you ever get into a dispute with a bank, you'll be glad that it's your handwriting on that slip.
Seems like you're just wasting everyone's time, including your own, and adding a great deal to your stress level. Not to mention stressing those who have to deal with you as part of their job.

If a mistake is made in the information, it was made by you and not the bank. It also eliminates you having to wait longer than you do, if you do the paperwork, and not the teller at the window.

Is this really that much of a problem? It only takes a minute and besides most transactions are done via direct deposit now anyway...

Banks want to show that they are more intelligent than their customers; where as some customers are smarter than banks and such thease customers contribute to some problems and to avoid the same banks go on adding formates.
