I find this question rather ironic. Just by posting this you're admitting that you do exactly the same thing you're accusing others of doing. Where's the reasoning in that??
BTW...I'm Catholic and I respect not only your views about God but your right to be here as well. Everybody should be free to express their opinions about religion without fear of persecution, so long as you do it with respect. I just thought your question was a bit funny, though I do sense the frustration behind it.
Happy Halloween to you as well. :)

I suspect believers imagine the whole world works much like their favorite church -- where the membership is carefully screened to insure that all hold similar core values and believe the same superstitions. R&S may well be a believer's first oppurtunity to discover that the real world is filled with people who have divergent opinions about almost everything. I think many Christians imagine the R&S experience should be more like a Bible study group, where one's superstitious faith is constantly being validated by fellow believers. Here in R&S, believers are distressed to discover that many people not only disagree with their preferred superstitions, but are openly critical of them. Even worse, many non-believers -- safe at last from the constant threat of violence at the hands of fundamentalist Christians -- are openly stating what's long been on their minds. Namely, that the principle of faith, accepting an outrageous assertion as a fact without supporting evidence, is intellectually irresponsible, often to the point of outright insanity. Christians care nothing for cultural diversity, academic freedom, or freedom of speech -- they'd be happy if their enemies would just quietly disappear and allow them to turn R&S into a glorified Bible study. That's why believers are obsessed with asking atheists to justify our presence here. They want us to leave.

(cause they think theirs is the only religion and that non-religious people are too busy sitting in their closets listening to Marilyn Manson and cutting themselves)
And no, coming here when you have no religion isn't contradicting anything. I have no interest in having children ever, but I visit the pregnancy section because I find it fascinating. It's a way to learn.

LOL!
I was wondering what that meant, as well.
Methinks it's a way of "devaluing" the correct answer, so as to make the person(s) you're asking stumble to find another way to explain it.
When in fact, Atheism is not a religion. Saying that it is, doesn't make it so.
Peace!

I'm confused by the question the link asks about converting people to the atheist faith, but your question is why they use Yahoo answers. They aren't the same thing. Personally I don't ask Atheists questions about their religion or try to convert them, I just pray for them.

It's like a child getting mad at the parent for showing them how silly they are acting, and that make believe friends are not something mature adults have.

Anyway , it's asked over and over and over . I always answer that I take R and S as being for those who are interested in religion , not necassarily that you have to believe in one .

They feel that their religious beliefs should be sheltered from critical analysis and inquiry, in the naive hope that pious belief can be substituted for knowledge.

not obsessed, in the Bible it's called testimony, it's sharing of life's lessons learned. Maybe ur sensitive and defensive on the subject so u view it as an intrusion. i think that on other subjects you may be more inclined to be open minded. sounds like a personal problem.
