They claim it is not a religion, even though any belief system pertaining to the existence of a god would be a religion, even if it is a counter-religion.

Since they don't consider it a religion, we have to say that they are trying to liberate us from our religion in order that we may embrace their lifestyle.

Misery loves company. They may say that they are not miserable, but they sure sound angry and that to me is miserable.

Kobe; If you are tired about hearing about God every single day, then why do you go to a religion discussion group?

I read the details but please. It's not a religion. There are vast numbers of beliefs-it can be broken down to non-belief in anything what-so-ever or some call anyone of a faith that's not 'the big 3-Xianity, Judaism, Islam' atheist. So, it's silly to think all of these can be lumped into a single category. Kinda like it's silly to think there is only one deity capable of creating life (BTW, where do you see that in nature?)
However, humans are social creatures and like to pass information. I've found that those who believe in Hell have created one to exist in themselves.

I don't know, but I wish they'd stop. My religion keeps me afloat during some pretty hard times. Other Christians who try to convert me to their religion are kind of annoying, but at least I know their hearts are (probably) in the right place. An ex-friend tried to actively convert me to atheism. She even sent me a book. I don't know if she just wanted to drag me down into her miserable little dark hole with her, or what other reason she might have had. I was SO offended that I cut off all ties with her. She can be an atheist if she wants; I resent anyone trying to force me to be one. My brain, intellect and scientific reasoning tell me that there IS a God.

Anyone who tries to change my basic nature, and make me into a copy of themselves, insults me at the deepest level. I have no use for people like that.

No, answering this doesn't mean that atheism is a religion. It means you have no religion.

Why are Christians obsessed with converting people to theirs? Cause the Bible says you're supposed to preach to everyone and try to, right? Well, an atheist thinks that's silly and annoying and for every person who tries to tell them that they're going to burn in a fiery pit for not believing like them they'll tell them that they think that's nonsense.

Contrary to popular belief, sharing an opinion is not at attempt to convert. I'll tell someone who says that Return of the Jedi is their favorite Star Wars that Empire Strikes Back is my favorite, but that doesn't mean I'm trying to change their mind.

It is simply not possible to be obsessed with converting people to a non existant religion. Atheism is simply the realization that absent any evidence that god exists, god doesn't exist. That is in no way shape or form a religion.
Is there something wrong with your perception of the world?

Not sure--I always thought that atheists would be apathetic about religion; or perhaps see it only as an interesting quirk, but I have found that not to be the case here.

Of course, it is probably a particular "flavor" of atheist who would come to a site like this at all--the behavior here is probably not representative of the group as a whole.

I'm glad you are the scientific ruler of the world.

"the bare fact that you answer this proves it is"How does it oh genius?Do you understand what "prove"means? How ridiculous

Also, you are to go and preach to unbelievers, yet you don't want us here, but since you have "PROVEN" atheism is a religion,we ARE believers,so,we can stay..Maybe you should have THOUGHT a second, you blew it on several levels with one question.Good job.

We have a vested interest in making sure the rest of society is educated. In particular Christians who believe that we are living in the "end times" have no incentive to invest in making the world have a better future. That affects my children and their descendants.

we don't try to convert anyone... If anything we simply pitty the people so stupid as to believe in some supreme being that is perfect, knows all, is all - and yet managed to create an imperfect world.... Hmmm... I guess we just look at you nutty religious idiots and think to ourselves I bet they still believe in a fat man in a red suit climbing down chinneys all over the world on December 25th...

But we don't want to convert anyone... We would like it if people were mored educated and not so stupid as to believe in fairytales... but hey... if you sleep better at night believing some supreme being is watching you while you sleep, have sex or masterbate - more power to ya... though for me its rather kinky.

I am 37 years old and i can confidently say that an atheist has NEVER tried to convert me to their way of though (it isn't a religion, BTW...) But I have had countless Bible Thumpers try to shove their religion down my throat so far I gagged!

Maybe if the Jesus freaks on here didn't try to bait them (like with this question) they wouldn't wrongly feel this way.

I'm just sayin'
