I am trying to install a Samsung Blu-Ray and a Toshiba HDDVD player into a high end home theater. We are using a McIntosh Controller to switch HDMI inputs going to a 1080p projector. The issue we are having is that the resolution on both the Blu-Ray and HDDVD keeps changing from 1080p to 720p everytime we switch sources on the McIntosh. Does anyone know of an issue with HDMI and Blu-Ray / HDDVD players and being able to maintain the set resolution? If there is a problem, does anyone know of a work around?

You issue is HDCP. You will need to update the firmware most likely on the Macintosh first, try the projector second and the Players third. Firmware issues usually stem from a backward compatibility issue with 1.1 or 1.2 going to 1.3a or 1.3b. Try to eliminate one of the components when trouble shooting. You also may be at the ragged edge of distance for the transport, as some devices only have pass thru capability and will NOT extend the useful distance of the transport. You may require a transcoder for this purpose (see link).

I am having a similar issue. Some of the DVD players dont like being switched away from the television.

I just found out that both the BluRay and HD players I am using had firmware updates. I burned these into a CDR and did the upgrade, but I have not had a chance to re-cable through the switch box to see if it fixed my problem.

Get the players updated to the latest firmware, then try again.

It sounds to me like the McIntosh controller is the most likely suspect. Can you substitute an HDMI switch (see the OPPO model) or A/V receiver with HDMI switcher to test it?

My guess is its an HDMI or HDCP handshake issue, and maybe if you isolate the problem to the McIntosh the company has a suggestion (firmware update??).

Hope this helps.
