I fail to see the logical connection between going to church and believing. I've known more than one person deeply faithful but totally disillusioned with organized Christian religion.
Still, I know what kind of person you're talking about. But they're not atheists - they are truly irreligious. They go to church every now and then due to social dogma, but are totally unconcerned with whether or not there's any point to it.

Being a true faithful christian isnt all about goin to church! it doesnt matter how many times a year or month u go to church. i mean i know people, who have absolute faith in the christian faith, and they may not go to church every week or month. but they pray alot etc etc. where as,
on the other hand, i know people
who claim they are devout christians yet an all, they go to church once a week, and later they explain that it makes them feel good and they think that all good will happen just because they have done this. they also say that they feel good because of goin to church, which is false.
alot of people think that if u dont go to church then u are not christian, but i totally disagree. i dont go to church as regularly as i once did, but im a true christian, i pray hard to god and i follow the christian life in most ways.,
i dont go to church once a week as a fashion parade or just to be able to say to people, oh im brilliant and holy because i went to church today.
im so glad u brought this question up.its interesting.
have a star!

going to church does not mean you are a Christian. if you look up the original meaning of church, it had nothing to do with a building. this is also mentioned in the Gospel of St. Thomas.
people can believe, have faith, and worship without a building.
ex: a single parent must hold down two jobs to make ends meet. this means they must work on those days that they could attend "church". would that make them wrong or non Christian? no. "if your ox were in a ditch on the sabeth, would you not pull it out"

I disagree. I'm a believer but "church" doesn't have to be in a building.
Spirituality is a very personal thing. People who are spiritual and don't go to church are often JUDGED by Christians who do. Why? I have known complete hypocrites who are in church every week but are liars and cheats in their everyday life...

Maybe they do, maybe they don't. It may be possible that some may be closet atheists, but to brand all of them as such is the height of presumption and arrogance. Those closet atheists could eventually end up believing. By the same token, a deacon or elder could give it all up and go atheist. Who are we to say?

Jesus is my church, he is not a building down the street. I can go to him anytime, anywhere. Those who are believers are the members of this church.
No offense but this is the lamest attempt yet that I've seen to bolster the number of atheists.

Theres alot of people that go 3 times a week
and arent going to heaven either.
Showing up at a building has nothing to do with it.

You can believe and not go to church. They can pray and read the Bible on their own time. I don't doubt there are true believers who don't care for churches.

No, they probably believe it, they just don't feel strongly enough about it to actually live it out. I'd just call that lazy.
