i was brushing my v. hyper active poodle who hates to be groomed anyway.
i was brushing him with that big metal brush that has lot's of little metal bristels and when my dog moved he bumped into the brush with eye. it seems a bit swollen now.
i will take him to the doctor tomorrow but what can i do for him now?
thanks

it doesn't look like his eye is hurt but more the outside. it's not much more swollen than his other eye. and he doesn't seem to mind it too much. he is not scratching it or anyting.
i can't reach his vet but so far so good! thanks

Like everyone else said, lay an ice pack on his eye. If you don't have an ice pack, put some ice in a plastic bag (But keep the corners/edges away from his eyes) and let it sit on his eye for a few minutes at a time. I personally wouldn't wrap ice in a paper towel, as those tend to flake and I wouldn't want that to irritate his eye even more.
You shouldn't just leave the ice on his eye though - give it like 5 minutes on, 10 off until the swelling goes down a bit.
The vet will take care of him tomorrow.
(And don't give him aspirin, sometimes on bigger dogs that's ok but with a poodle I wouldn't take a chance of him overdosing.)

just like the human eye, any irritation to the eye can cause swelling, If you are not going to get him checked today, then I would get some eye wash from the pharmacy and at least rinse his eye out with that. They will drop some dye in there at the vet to find if you had scratched the eye at all and if so they will issue an eye drop that is medicated. On a good note, the eye is the fast healing part of the body. What does the vet say when you call them? Do they say do not worry about it till tomorrows?

Try cold water compresses. A pad of cotton wool soaked in cold water will ease the pain and bring out any bruising and keep the swelling to a minimum. Don't leave it too long before you see the vet.

ok. being a dog groomer this happens alot. try to get into the vets as soon as you can but just for now make sure you rinse his eye. 1st with warm water then with cold. no ice. all of the cold will just cause him pain. just countinously rinse his eye.

If you're poodle's eye seems sore, or he's troubled by it.cool it with ice. You can't do much else. The doctor will know what to do next.

i would just call a vet you trust and ask them what to do...never take a chance with your pets eyes because they can become infected

If he is in pain an ASPIRIN NOTHiNG ELSE. If it is a small dog maybe a half or even quarter. Try using a hot water soaked wash cloth to soak it.
