unless you are ex army forget it its not going to happen, I say this because if your thinking of going abroad which is where all the best work is you will need experience with firearms and you cannot learn this in a weekend with plastic weapons (ive heard of this being used on a training course), sure you can do a training course and might be lucky enough to get some very low level work but that's it, all the best jobs will be offered too and taken by ex army personnel, also what type of work are you thinking of if its the top end, working abroad then you have to be ex military to stand a chance, if you want to work in the u.k. Then it doesn’t necessarily, I mean I know a fella who is a top martial artist and as firearms are not allowed in the UK he’s feet and arms do the talking I also know people who think they are B.G/C.P officers but actually they are nothing more than glorified butlers, the B.G circuit is a close knit lot and when jobs come up they more or less get offered to people rather than advertised, I'm not talking here of minders these big ape types who think their special and look after minor Celebes, real B.Gs wouldn't consider this type of work, all in all its a very hard game to get into if your not in the know all theses courses are run by ex army some are good and others I would avoid like the plague as they promise the world and deliver nothing, if you are considering doing a course and want any advice feel free to email me ive done a few and know allot of others who have and can recommend the best courses available, ive been out of the security scene for a while now but i could point you in the right direction
good luck

All of the above answers are correct, but I think you need to know what you want depending on where you go from here. Alot of CP work is abroad, high wage with a high risk factor. Some mainland work is available, but you're competing with the likes of ex special forces and such. If you're serious about it, some CP Training facilities hold seminars and you can ask as many questions to find out about the industry as you like, before you commit to a course. (courses can run anywhere from £3k to 6k -on average).
Task, Phoenix and Ronin all hold seminars you can attend, it's just an email to each company to find out coming dates of the next meeting.

The adverts you see offer training and most will find you work, if you come through the tests. A number of companies offer this training and these come to mind: TASK International, Phoenix and remember, the main thing is commitment followed by the overwhelming desire to do the job. It is nothing like the 'doors' if you understand. It is more than just a SIA.

Almost anyone offering training in close protection is going to be about one step away from a scam.
If you want to get into bodyguarding (and be taken seriously by people) you need time in either the Secret Service or the Diplomatic Security Service.
Failing that, military experience as a special operator will open a fair number of doors as well.

CPO's need to be not only fit and well trained - they also have to be resourceful and able to think on their feet. So if you can't find out how to become one yourself - you are not the man for the job.
