You are either a smoker or a non-smoker. So if you smoke one or more cigarettes per day, that would make you a smoker. If you never smoke, you are a non-smoker

Yes, if you smoke regularly you are a smoker. Even if it only once a week. But, I'd say if you only did one in highschool (or whenever) and have never taken a puff since, you are not a smoker. Whoever this person is that takes 5 cigarettes a day, you should reccommend them to get help, so that they can live a long, healthy life. Here is the gist what a UK newspaper, Mail On Sunday, has to say about 5 cigarettes (it was written by an author who smoked 5 a day):

"On one section [of one of the cartoid artery] there is a small but unmistakeable fuzzy build-up. 'That,' the sonographer announces, 'is plaque.' This is not what I had expected. I had come to the hospital to take part in a research experiment to find out if my years of light smoking had resulted in any arterial damage. At 34, and otherwise reasonably healthy, I hadn't expected any. Instead, what I find is that the small build-up in the carotid is the kind of damage which would be expected in a person ten years older."

You are all bloody brilliant. I am amazed at the depth of analysis for this topic. I hope the questioner is paying attention and gives up the damn things. Only a baby would stick something in its mouth that could give it cancer. Spend some time in an oncology ward and see how appealing cigarettes are then.

If you are puffing on a cigarette, you are smoker whether it's 5 or 50 a day.

That's false. They may not be a habitual smoker but even 1 cig per day is a smoker...

Your friend is wrong. Even one cigarette a week makes a person a smoker.

If you smoke a singular cigarette per day you are a smoker. Any substance you put into your lungs is dangerous no matter how small.

A smoker SMOKES. Period.

One, two, ten.....

5 per day is definitely a smoker.

The only person who is NOT a smoker is one who doesn't smoke at ALL.

it takes ten times more willpower to limit yourself to 5 cigs a day and remain at that level, than to quit completely.
The question ultimately becomes moot therefore.

No one will smoke 5 cigs a day for very long. He/she will either move up to a pack a day, or quit.
