but I plan on joining the Army after I graduate. Will I have to start eating meat to be allowed in?

We had a similar question a couple days ago. I am a vegetarian, I was a much stricter vegetarian when I joined the military. I never told anyone I was a vegetarian, and no body ever asked. During boot camp I lived on rice and peanut butter (which are offered at almost every meal) and whatever vegetables they offered. After boot camp I was stationed at an Army base and they always had vegetarian options in the dining hall.. veggie burgers, veggie sausage.. etc. When you're in the field they have vegetarian MREs, but they're slim pickings usually.. so I stuck with the pasta, tuna or egg ones.

no. the army has vegetarian mres that you can eat while in the field. The only draw back to this is they aren't very good but they do have the best candy in them. When you are not in the field you get to choose what you eat so you won't have a problem there either. Good luck

There is a big variety of veggie selection in the chow hall, I would suggest eating meat sometimes, as basic will wear your muscle group out and you will need the protein to rebuild muscles and a ton of peanut butter on bread will not do this. Thats up to you, you will see, if you can't do this, bring protein drinks with you to rebuild muscles, the protein in the drinks is better protein replacement anyways. When they feed you MRE's ask for the vegetarian MRE, there is one.

Nope, the MRE's come in vegetarian meals too. In the Dining facility there are a variety of foods, including vegetarian dishes. Just let them know in basic that you are vegetarian.

plenty of people do very well not eating meat. there will be vegetarian options in the galley as well as in the field, although you will have to accept the possibility that you may have to suck it up and have that Turkey A la King MRE because all the vegetarian ones have been consumed already( they are widely regarded as being the tastiest)
