This is a sign of a mental problem you are not dealing with. It shows you are "angry" with yourself or feeling guilty about something going on. You need therapy. You never know when you may injure yourself to the extent that you have permanent damage or death.

Self harm doesn't hurt. That's where the problem is. There is very little (if any) pain.
Of course there are worse ways you could be dealing with your problems, and I'm not saying that SI is a good thing but it is the way you have learnt to cope with every day stuff.
The worst that can happen due to SI is that you could die. Its as simple as that, if you go that one step too far then ultimately you could end up hitting a vain or an artery. Then there is also a chance that the cut could get infected. Not life threatening, but quite painful.
Many people are dead against self harm, because they don't understand how someone can destroy their body, and they think its just an attention seeking device. ITS NOT.
Yes, some people do cut in order for attention, but usually its a way of venting stress and anger when the injurer has no other way of expressing their emotions.
I'm not Promoting self harm, I just see it as a way to cope. If you are going to cut, just make sure you do it safely. Using antiseptic wipes are good, but also make sure the "tool" you use is clean as well.
Hope this helps and take care. x

You may be correct about some of the alternatives, but hurting yourself is a very dangerous thing. What you do to yourself affects the people around you who care about you (and there are more of those than you think), and it's also an extremely loud warning signal that you have troubles that really need resolving - suicide, after all, is just an extreme version of self-mutilation, and suicide is a devastating thing to everyone around the person who kills herself. The unresolved pain ricochets around almost indefinitely, and may even lead to other people killing themselves as a way to flee their pain. This is a very bad thing. Pain can be dealt with and hopefully resolved - we should be trying to reduce the pain in the world, not add to it. And that can mean starting by trying to reduce the pain in you that makes you hurt yourself. You don't deserve it; you're punishing yourself for someone else's problems, and it would be far better for you and for those who love you now (and will love you in the future) to try to find out why and throw that stuff out.

Hurting yourself is like cutting away at your personality.
1) it hurts
2) it is not a good image
there are better ways to deal with problems other than self-injuring, I suggest a councellor.

Of course there are worse ways, but there are also better ones. I can't imagine that any of the things you list ever solved a problem.

By injuring yourself, aren't you "being violent", anti-social and "bottling up your emotions"?

the fact that you still need to ask why is it so bad, suggests you have many problems. go visit your local hospice, cancer association, aids care centre and do volunteer work. it will help you to be grateful for what you have and make your problems seem petty. GET HELP PLEASE

You could bleed to death depending on where you cut yourself?
Hit an artery and say good bye.
