Question

I have two red spots on the inside of the lip.... They are like raw skin that are tender to the touch.
What could this be???? It has been there for almost a week now and I cannot have intercourse because it causes me pain when they are rubbed against.
Please help!?! I'm scared....
--please dont tell me to go to the doc, i am going to, I just want a heads up please....

That sounds familiar. Whenever I shave the entire area, I unfortunately cut myself a little here, a little there. I hope you are having a shaving related problem, otherwise it could be what everyone else is suggesting. Good Luck to ya!

What are the symptoms of genital herpes?

Once exposed to the virus, there is an incubation period that generally lasts 3 to 7 days before a lesion develops. During this time, there are no symptoms and the virus cannot be transmitted to others. An outbreak usually begins as an itching or tingling sensation followed by redness of the skin. In recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes, culturing the blister fluid during the recurrences detects the herpes virus in only 50% of the cultures. There are herpes blood tests that are used only for research purposes. The reason the blood tests are limited to research use is that they only indicate that someone is a "carrier" of the virus and do not mean he or she actually will get an attack of genital herpes that can be spread from person to person. This is the reason why it's best to go right to the blister and sample it, since what really needs to be known is whether a blister is filled with infectious herpes virus or not.

2 red spots that are painful? Don't want to scare you, but if they are tender and not very hard to the touch, sounds like herpes. They will usually spread, so watch for a few more. In this case - even though you said don't say "go to the doc", you will have to. There is no cure for the herpes virus, BUT he can give you some meds to take to prevent future outbreaks. It's probably herpes. Feel for enlarged lymph nodes in the groin area- if enlarged, that's another sign that it's herpes. Don't freak out if it is- there is medicine that will help and it's very common. You'd be surprised how many clean, normal people have it. I work in a doc office. I know.
