Not many. Maybe 20-30%. But this number is added to by people who are funny when they don't mean to be.

Well, we don't actually know how many are TRYING to be funny, do we? But I still believe in Sturgeon's Law.

Many years ago, science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon was asked why 90% of science fiction is such BS. He replied that it was because 90% of everything is BS. This became known as Sturgeon's Law. Then in the late 1970s, I met Mr. Sturgeon at a science fiction convention in San Francisco. I asked him if 95% wouldn't be more accurate, and he acknowledged that it was.

Lately I've been using 99%.

I believe that the operative word here is TRY. There are a lot of funny people on here - unfortunately I believe that there is a percentage of them that are NOT trying to be funny - but they are. Then the oposite side of the spectrum - those that are trying to be funny but are not!

I guess the problem is how to break that down.

About 25% . It is probably even lower than that, 'cos you can't always tell who is trying to be funny and it doesn't show at all. Then, of course, there are different senses of humour, mine isn't american. The "Drink" thing is totally lost on me.

Funny to who?
I think it varies from day to day and maybe my mood.
Yesterday there was a guy who posted something about the "Devil went down to Georgia...and was Georgia a girl?"
I understood what he meant and all but I thought it was pretty stupid. He had many however who told him how funny he was and gave him stars.

I get all the rotten tomatoes.

Why? It doesn't go with strawberries and cream! Sheesh! I'm a dessert for Pete's sake!

I give people big points for anything original, even if it doesn't have me falling on the floor laughing. When they're just copying something they heard someone else say, it usually doesn't amuse me.

Was this inspired by my solemn pronouncement of Flowery Language Day (FLD)?

My cutting wit seems to get a lot of people's goat...I don't care because if people can't laugh at themselves and their beliefs then they are beyond hope.
