Whichever you choose, be proud of the uniform you wear. All branches are essential to the protection of our country.

They both serve a different purpose. The Marines are a force in readiness and can be deployed at the will of the President without a declaration of war. Marine infantry are LIGHT infantry and as such are believed by many to be the best in that capacity. They specialize in amphibious landings and vertical envelopment. They are better at attacking than they are at occupation and usually relinquish control to the Army after they have captured an objective.
To send the Army in to action is a bit more complicated and requires a declaration of war for any protracted deployment. In addition the Army has greater resources when it comes to heavy equipment used on the ground. The Army is a much larger force and usually occupy that which they have taken control of.
To Rocker24:
As far as snipers go the Army usually deploys multiple sniper teams when engaging the enemy. The Marines usually deploy 1 team (shooter & spotter) to engage a particular target or targets. To say one is better than the other is an outrageous generalization. Google Carlos Hathcock and see what you think. He is considered by many to be the best. He was a Marine.

someone above me said something about the Marines giving more responsibility to it's junior enlisted and fostering more leadership.
as an example of this; i was once attached to an Army unit and had to report for an orders briefing for a mission and when i entered the tent the Army guys thought i was crazy and in the wrong place. At the time i was a Lance Corporal (E-3)and the next junior Army rank in the tent was a E-6.
so, that was my experience with the Army for what its worth.

Dependes on what you want out of it if you want to serve just to say you did and be the cool guy I'd say Marines but the army has the most money and no other branch can compete with army promotions and programs, if you want the best quality of life i'd say air force and if you don't want to deploy get with the coast guard same pay no deployments.

I think it depends on your personal goals. The Marines have a reputation that makes people think they're untouchable("the few, the proud") , however the Army is just as good("There's strong, then there's ARMY strong")...they are both serving for the same reason, to prtoect/defend our country. Both require perosnal courage, integrity, and bravery as well as a sincere dedication towards the country...so its a toss up, in my opinion:P (I'm joining the ARMY though lol so my opinion may be biased) HOOAH!

I'm prior Navy attached to Marine unit and current army.
Right now, I'm saying Marines. Better discipline, better leadership, more responsibility for junior enlisted, and better trained.
The army has a few points though: better chance for promotion, more opportunities, bigger budget.
Hope this helps.

Both services are excellent choices, but if I had my ten years' service to do over, I'd do in in the Marines.
