Even if you decide what kind of shoes to buy, most athletes are very particular about their athletic shoes. Proper fit and comfort are very important.

So, what to do about his impending birthday? Decide if you want to buy him running shoes or cycling shoes. Then get a gift certificate for either a running shoe store or a cycling shoe store. That way he can pick the shoes that feel right for him.

Triathletes generally wear two different shoes during an event. They have cycling shoes for the ride and running shoes for the run. They switch during the transition. There are specific models of each that cater to triathletes. mainly, these specialized models have easy to release fastening systems to allow for easier transitions. Some ride the bike with their running shoes to save transition time, but this requires a special pedal with a stiff sole. It's not a preferred method.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure this is a good gift to buy for someone. Shoe choice is very personal and finding the right fit is crucial. It is something they might want to try on in person to be sure that they work well for their style and foot.

I'm not sure but I think that the one for triathlon is for running too as in triathlon you've got to do swimming, cycling and running. I think that if you buy the triathlon shoes, it will suit him in running too.
