Driving home last night doing about 29mph on a 30mph speed limit over the white lines where the speed cameras are and once i was over the white lines i picked up a bit f speed. Then somebody in the car said oh someone just got flashed behind us and then i convinced myself that it was me even though i was not over the limit o n the white lines, but i thought because i picked up a bit of speed abut 200 yards after the white lines they flashed me.I would just like to know is it only on the white lines they can do you.I know the cameras are there for a good reason, but does anyone else think 3 points and a fine is a bit steep.

The sequence of white lines after a camera are measurement lines. The camera flashes twice so the white lines show the distance you have travelled between flashes. However, the camera is only activated when you are at the designated speed to which the camera has been set. It is therefore quite likely that you have been caught. In a 30mph zone the cameras are set at about 33 to 35, allowing a margin for speedo error. It is very easy to overstep this speed as at 30 you can hardly notice the difference. In answer to your secondary question I believe that the £60 fixed penalty fine and the penalty points are about right as if you are a responsible person then the 3 points become a real millstone on your license and you cannot wait for the 3 years to pass so that they can be removed. In addition those 3 points cause your insurance to cost more so best thing is not to speed. Keeping to speed limits is really very sensible as it does save lives and also makes your engine more economical.

I don't think you are restricted to the white lines. If you are speeding, and within range of the camera it will capture you.

It may have been someone behind you but you'll not know for a couple of weeks when any ticket will be issued to you.

I think the 3 points are a bit steep but the fine should be enough to deter anyone from repeating it.

How long will the points remain on a licence? Anyone know?

Don't think they can get you after the white lines as these lines are used to calculate the spped you are travelling.

I agree that 3 points and a fine are a bit steep and perhaps the punishment should relfect how much over the limit you are doing.

it wont have been you. Gatsos flash twice - once at the beginning and once at the end, so don't panic.

No I don't think its steep, you can still get caught another twice before you lose your license - you don't get much more lenient than that!!

If your speeding, your speeding. Regardless of the location. Don't speed, and you won't be worried all the time about citations.
