surely one knows the difference from love and hate from in themselves and treatment from others? Not from reading it in a book? I say resort because respect for each others beliefs especially of one that asks for a better life is enough of a statement its-self?

The bible is full of parables. Parables are by-design created to be re-told.

well, the humanist perspective from which you see the misuse of the Bible makes that misuse all the more obvious. The Bible is a difficult document, with sections that I have real problems with accepting. I do not feel comfortable saying that I believe in the Bible, although I do believe much of the Gospel. You echo the sayings of Jesus, really, when you talk about love, equality and respect for each other.

I'm not sure, perhaps its because they (and by they i don't mean ALL the Christians) don't have their own opinion on the matter, perhaps they just wish to sound clever, or perhaps they need a confirmation of their beliefs. Personally I only quote the Bible in my answres when the asker themselves asks for a Bible quote, other than that i write my own thoughts and feelings.

Bible forms the foundation of all our beliefs.

There are essential differences. True, "love, equality and respect for each other... should be encouraged". But all of us would have to downplay our differences, in fact, not talk about them at all. Is it really possible to do so when every sphere of our lives is affected by our beliefs, both yours and mine and all the others as well?

The Bible is the only source of information they have to prove their point, because the Bible is the only evidence they have that any of this crap they believe ever happened.

Now, if you're a smart Atheist, such as myself, you've read the Bible cover to cover and know it by heart as well, so when you're having quotes thrown at you by some Fundy, you'll know whether or not he's just trying to sound like a big-shot.

They're uneducated and can't rely on knowledge from the four major groups, Science, Civics, Math or History.

All bible thumpers resort back to the bible when confronted with a logical debate... it's all they know.

The major foundation of Christianity is found in the chapter of Revelation, where God burns all of the unsaved. The purpose of our life is to make sure we are on the right side of the fence on the day of judgment.

Truth is subjective, so they have to grasp at straws to make any points. In reality, they have no evidence so they fall back on the writings of goat herders as fact instead of viewing the writings in a literary or allegorical context.

I think you need to look that word "resort" up in a dictionary.

My primary teaching tool and reference is the Bible. Without the Bible, I have no message.

My message comes from the Bible, not from me.

Truth is the main message in the Bible.

The Bible defines what love is.

Without the Bible we would not know what love is.

Without the Bible we would not know what right and wrong is.
