Cha-Cha is for people who like a Medium speed latin beat.

Originally known as the Cha-Cha-Cha. Became popular about 1954. Cha Cha is an offshoot of the Mambo. In the slow Mambo tempo, there was a distinct sound in the music that people began dancing to, calling the step the "Triple" Mambo. Eventually it evolved into a separate dance, known today as the Cha Cha.

The cha cha is an energetic Latin dance with a lot of personality. It began as an off shoot of the mambo and was originally called the triple mambo. In the 50's it was all the rage. It is a ballroom dance with syncopated steps and lots open movement.

Anyone can dance the cha cha. It's rhythm is contagious!

Here are a some examples of songs that one could dance the cha cha to:

Tea for two (Tommy Dorsey)
Dancing Queen (ABBA)
Smooth (Santana)
lots of Celine Dion's songs too

Cha-cha-cha is a nigtclub dance (danced at the same places as salsa) and a ballroom dance. Hence, it is danced by people who dance salsa and ballroom. These two versions are similar to one another, ballroom version is just requring more space on the dance floor. Ballroom version can be danced competitively or socially. Cha-cha originated from Mambo. Wikipedia has a good article on cha-cha.
