Turn you iron on low/medium (no steam), cover the area with 2 or three paper bags, then cover that with one layer of towel, and then gently go over the towel with the iron. The heat from the iron will gently warm the wax and should not harm the carpet. The bags will soak up the wax and dyes and the towel will protect your iron from the bags. After going over it for about thirty seconds, gently lift it all to see if it is all gone. If not, repeat.

Lay thick kitchen paper over wax, then something like a tea towel and press with warm iron until wax is absorbed. Keep replacing kitchen paper til all wax is out. Adjust the heat of the iron til the wax starts melting, but not hot enough to damage carpet. I have done this in the past and the wax has been completely removed.
