On the show Mythbusters they tried to find some answers to this myth. They had 3 identical (same watering system etc) mini green houses which had different scenarios in them. The first was a controlled (with no talking), second was the "love" scenario (they said good stuff like "your going to be a big tall healthy plant" and played classical music) and the third was the "hate" scenario where there was loud heavy metal playing and they said stuff like "you are going to shrivel up and die". Out of all these, the plants in the hate scenario grew the best. (the plants they used where beans by the way)

They did an experiment years ago, where they played only heavy metal music to some plants and the others classical. The classical ones grew faster than the heavy metal ones. The heavy metal ones even grew deformed. These were exact clones from the same plant. Its very interesting, but its true. I would yell at a Triffid.

I've tried insults to stop the weeds growing, but without success.
"Call yourself a weed, I've seen better looking specimens growing where the sewer has overflowed"
