By not hitting the Fn key, just the keys representing the F11 and F12...do those keys display their corresponding result on screen? If so then can you tell me when u hold Fn and press F11 and F12 does it display or do anything at all?

Its possible the running tool that monitors your config for the F11 and F12 has been lost and you may have ot re-set it up again. Worst case scenerio is they keys are dead due to static electricity but i strongly doubt that.

If You Talk about the laptop keyboard they dont die that much quickly,

the latest laptops are using multimedia keyboard and provide you 1 key operation/ access to manay of the system functions,

for that purposr they also use drivers for them, it may be caused by if you have re-installed the OS in your system and for get to install the Drivers for the multimedia functionality.

do check the Drivers and the Response of the Keys WITHOUT Fn and with Fn key

that may solve your problem

Are you sure the sound is not "muted" in which case changing the volume cannot have an effect.

Check via control panel, sounds etc. From here you can test the sound directly and come to some reasonable conclusion as what is wrong.

you definitly can. I have a keyboard, and have been playing piano for probably about 4 yrs w/ lessons, and i still can use my keyboard. Plus, it makes it so much more fun. You might want to get a pedal eventually. Though
