Most likely it is a phishing attempt. Often, a spammer will send seemingly official looking emails asking for personal information, etc. Then, when you click the link and enter the information, you are actually entering it into something that will record what you enter and use it to try and hack / phish your account information. Never click on links in emails that ask you for personal information - open a browser window, type the address in yourself, and then log in before providing any information about yourself.

It's a fake. If the company itself says that it would never ask for your password, then it is most likely a scam. Plus, I find it unlikely that you would need to give out so much information, when it is not required to tell them all of that information to get your account in the first place, if I recall correctly.
