Hibernating is better. It has no harmful effects. But shut it down at least once in 2 day.

If your laptop is a little on the slow side, and you're one of those people who hate waiting for computers to load, then you'll properly want to hibernate a lot.
Both involve turning off the power (so the computer is actually "off") but hibernating copies everything in you RAM to the hard disk, and when you turn the computer on again, it just copies it back. It's much faster than booting normaly.
If you keep doing this, though, your computer might start running slower for no reason. Nobody is sure why, but computers do gain some mysterious benefit from being shut down every so often.
Some PCs do come with a hibernate option, to see if yours has it , click Start --> Turn off computer... and when the box comes up hold down shift. If your PC can hibernate, the option will appear where "stand by" normally is.

Hibernating copies memory contents to disk and back again when you startup. Essentially the effect is a much faster startup/shut down but because of this the memory can become fragmented and cause slower performance.
Any programs that were running when hibernated will still be running when you restart. Useful if you are playing a game you cannot save to resume again tomorrow.
If you are asked to restart your system when installing new S/W, hibernate will not do.
Simple answer hibernate is quicker, uses no power, but do a shutdown and restart periodically.

Hiderbating id th elowest possible enery saver.when your computer hibernates it stores all running task etc in the memory to me loaded when you press a key etc.
its much faster loading windows etc if you dont want ot wait for the whole boot up process start up programs etc.......
if you dont mind that than shut down ,but if you are on your pc on and off at any time i'd just hibernate so your right where you were two hours ago etc.

They are both energy-saving measures but I prefer shutting down my computer to make certain no-one else can access it.
