what do conservationists do to increase the population of endangered species?

There are a handful of little things they do (research and such) but the larger goals are mainly to protect the enviro in which the species lives. For the most part endangered animals occur because they are either hunted/poached or the area in which they live is being destroyed. By protecting that area through either trackers, fences, setting up anit-hunting/ant-harvest laws (for plant and animal), etc, etc, etc they can take away a larger part of the problem.

However even when land is protected and they have armed rangers and anti-poaching teams bad things still can happen.

To further help various centers have been set up around the world that deal strictly with orphaned animals (gorillas, elephants, rhino, orangutans, etc). When their family members or just mothers are killed the babies would die shortly after. However with these centers they are able to raise the babies in a safe enviro until they are old enough to be released back into the wild population. However at times, say an injury for example, these babies are unable to be released into the wild ever again. With those they tend to move them to a zoo or breeding facility to keep the population going and gene pool healthy.

There are also centers (there is a huge panda one in china) that deals with research and breed/release. These centers spend their time breeding endangered animals then releasing them into the wild at a healthy save age.

On top of that you have zoos and other related facilities that continue to breed endangered animals to keep a healthy gene popluation going. Some of the animals are released back into the wild where others are unable to just yet because it is not safe. Look up SSP programs with zoos.

Like I said there are tons of things they do but the two largest are to keep their habitat safe and the gene pool healthy.

they have following steps

1. they try to know biology and behavior of species
2. if they know habits and habitats they try to save that
3. if there is no chance that they can restore the habitat in time that species may die they create a environment around it that's known as captive environment to facilitate its breeding and restoration
4 the mean while they try to find out the cause which is responsible for making this species endangered. so as to resolve the problem for it survival
5 knowing food chain and food web, external (ecology, predation, poaching, killing) and internal (physiology, disease) factors are evaluated for taking steps for its conservation

Best is to leave it on its own and do not disturb it will try it self for its survival it him make an attempt and then if it fails then intervene
