Do you own two laptops? It sounds to me as if you may only own one - the other being for business.

Recent upsurges in cheap, available memory devices has led to new business security admin practices. The business machine will have been locked down (secured). This guards against new program installation or data theft using a USB device.

I can almost bet that the laptop that it doesnt work in doesnt have usb 2.0.a faster more reliable usb interface.if it doesnt then it probably won't work .and i fit does work it might work sometimes.
