my younger sister Des just turned 16 and wants to quit school to do a mechanic apprenticeship. it cracks me up thinking about her as a mechanic cause shes so petite. haha. what do you think about females in such a male dominated industry?

I think that's really cool, I wish I could do something like that! I think it's great when girls get into a career that's male dominated--it just proves that girls can do things just as well as guys.

I'm a jet engine mechanic and work with some female mechanics. Some are great and some have huge chip on their shoulder, just like the guys. Tell you sister to finish high school and join the Air Force. There are many females building jets, jet engines, helicopter etc. in the services. She could even go to the recruiting office this weekend and talk to them about it.

They still know more about fixing cars than I ever will.
Cut her some slack. If that's what she is passionate about, give her your support. There is nothing wrong with being a mechanic. It is a noble profession.....as long as they aren't crooks.
