Well. It's natural. I have a little model car I call Nelly. She listens to me and understands my problems, and she wants nothing in return except for a good cleaning.

You should tell them that you feel sorry for him/her for having such a crippling mind narrowing prejudice against, "inanimate objects" and that he/she has closed the door to lots of wonderful friendships.
