I am 25 weeks and sometimes labour/birth freaks me out but most of the time I just tell myself that millions of other women have done it and coped. I think the main thing that is helping me is lots and lots of reading... knowing exactly what to expect but at the same time not having any expectations if that makes sense. I know what is going to happen to my body and I know why I will have contractions and how long I should expect each one to go for etc. I have ideas on how I want my birth to go... i.e. vaginal birth, no epidural (I'm scared of it!!) but at the same time, I am open to this changing if that is what is best for me and the baby
How far along are you?

I am about 6 months pregnant with my first child. I am 19, and as far as I know I am going to have a son! Its all very exciting!!! As for the labour part I haven't had a great deal of time to consider it yet as I am too busy studying for my exams for university. But once they are over, in about a week, I guess I will have time to dwell on it. I don't really want to though! I know its going to hurt, and I just hope that I am able to cope with the pain. I would like to have a natural birth, without pain meds but if I can't handle it I won't say no. I may end up with a c-section though because big babies are in my family and mine has been measuring big all along. But fingers crossed I won't have to because they take so much longer to recover from. I am just going to take it all as it comes and make any decisions as I am confronted with them.
Congrats on yours. Good Luck

i have already delivered and was scared until i switched to a midwife who had me do a lot of reading about the body and labor process. i also took hypnobirthing classes and read the book 'hypnobirthing' by marie mongan.
that helped me have a homebirth at the age of 19 with my boyfriend holding me up in the watertub during birth.
we went through a long labor, but i tried to tell my body to make it long because i understood that a longer labor and good positions during labor would be a good way to make sure baby was in a good position for the actual 2nd stage... the descent... my long pre labor ensured that i only fel tthe urge to push for about 6 or 7 contractions... otherwise i just breathed and made sure i was upright and not laying down as much as possible... well i layed down on my side when i felt the labor was going a little to fast for me and that helped, too.
i hope you have a happy and healthy birthing experience... it's a beautiful mystery and the most empowerign thing i have ever felt in my life...

ps. if it ever feels like just too much... try to go through a coupel of surges with good slow breathing and thinking that it's just one day of your life... and then after the long and strong contractions are over you will be holding your amazing baby, the most beautiful thing you have ever seen, right there in your arms!!!!

I am not pregnant, but I do remember the fear! I learned what ever I could about the birth process, and realized that there is no other way for the baby to come into the world! I took Lamaze classes and used it, really used it, with 3 of my babies. I use it now when I am in pain or feeling sick and it helps to relax me and take my focus beyond the pain. Nothing besides drugs or an epidural will take the pain away, but it is a pain that we are meant to be able to handle.

I am pregnant with my fourth. It's not as bad as what you think it will be. I was so scared with my first that I dwelled on it all the time. Just remember each contraction is just another step closer to finally meeting the little miracle that has been living inside you for the past 10 months.

I am paranoid. I read up on it, I ask woman who've given birth....and it still makes no difference. The will be loads and loads of pain, but I guess God wouldnt have done it that way if he doubted that you wouldnt be able to handle it. I'm just opting for the drugs...Me and pain? Not the best of friends....

well, this is my 3rd and there is nothing to be afraid of. When you're in labour, just calm down and kiss your bf or husband, they'll be there for you.(during my second, we got a divorce and i went to labor myself). Also, when it's coming, take a deep breath and push hard( but not too hard) ask someone to wipe your perspiration and try again.
Good Luck with your Labor!

I am. I just think of it as there's no way to avoid it...it has to happen no matter what, it's worth it, & I'm so ready to c & hold my baby girl. That's how I deal with it, but I don't think there's any ways to avoid being scared. Good luck!!! =)

I'm due May 23 with my first and really scared. I'm just trying to get as much info about it and watch TLC's "A Baby Story" as much as I can to familiarize myself with it. Good luck!
