Usually, I would press F8, but upon doing this, my computer prompts me on boot priority. When I select the HDD, it boots normally. It's a built computer--Asus M2N-SLI mobo, Athlon 6000 CPU, Hitachi deskstar 320 gb hdd, evga 8800 gts. I want to boot in safemode, how can I do this safely?

It is F8, however, it sounds to me you are pressing F8 a little too soon. Unfortunately your computer is using F8 as well for its boot priority...mine does the same thing...Just wait like half-sec (after the period when the Boot priority comes up) and press F8...

Another way is for you to do this:

1. type "msconfig" in the Run Window (Windows-key + R)

2. Click the "Boot.Ini" tab and check on the "/SafeBoot" option..

3. Click "OK" and it will ask to restart your computer

4. You will be taken to Safe Mode...

5. When you are done in safe mode repeat the above steps but untick the '/SafeBoot" so you can get back into your normal windows.

It sounds to me from your question though that you want to get into "Safe Mode" because of the idea that it will be "SAFE" to do your computing in....To give you some insight, Safe Mode is actually a "scaled back" version of your normal mode. The only real use for Safe Mode is to get you into a bare-bones working version of windows so you can diagnose and fix any problems you might be having in your normal mode. In safe mode alot of things that might be important may not work correctly because they are intentionally not running. So be warned...Your best option if you want ot be "safe" is to start using a free antivirus/anti spyware and firewall programs on your computer in Normal Mode.
Have fun!

Trust this, use another key boad, the 1 you have is locking out F8 when booting, then resart computer wait for keyboard lights 2 flash (not before only after) then hit f8 enter then you should get your safe mode and other options screen. G luck Chuck

When your computer begins to boot, just tap F8 until the boot screen appears.
