I plan to buy a guitar and start playing one. Although I have very very little knowledge about guitar I do know that I want an acoustic and would like to start from there. And my question is, is there a place online that would teach me the notes and all the chords and things like that? Or would I have to go get personal lessons. I'd rather not get personal lessons because i'm 15 years old and I don't really have the time for them because of school, work, sports etc. And I would just learn to do it in my spare time.

In a nutshell- if there are websites that teach you, could you tell me? Thanks.

Also check out www.ultimate-guitar.com
Its a tab website which is basicly the modern day notes

Look on the site on how to read tabs
and you will be playing songs in no time. Also

USE ALL 4 FINGERS
dont get in bad habits
some people have weak pinkys and when they play guitar they only use 3 fingers. For guitar. You need all your fingers so make sure you use them all

look into buying whats called a gripmaster
you can get them cheap at a guitar center or music place

it will basicly make your hand strong so you can fret notes quickly and smoothly

Its really easy and you will be playing in no time if you listen to what i mentioed. Any questions

I went the private lessons route, and it cost me way too much, so I stopped doing those. I'm one of those people that seem to learn learn better on my own.

I was a member of Jamplay for a while (great place if you want video lessons). Eventually though, I got Steve Krenz's Learn and Master Guitar course. (pricey, but excellent for beginners). There's a few reviews on these two and most of the other online guitar lessons in my source.

If you want something free, I recommend www.guitar.about.com

Good Luck! :-)
