After the last shot of Depo Provera, it can take over 6 months for the drug to leave the body. You can try cleansing techniques to detox or eliminate the synthetic hormone from where it is stored in your body's tissues: drink tons of water, eat lots of fresh raw organic vegetables, drink raw vegetable juice, sweat in a steam room or sauna, get lots of exercise and fresh air. You can also ask at a health food store about herbal formulas or teas that help balance female hormones, or talk with a naturopathic physician or herbalist.

It is out of your body after the twelve weeks are up but the residual effects could last years.

I went on Kariva (pill) when my last shot that I never got was due and got my periods back in three months.

And, you only have a one week window to get the shot without needing a pregnancy test done first.

You CAN and people have gotten pregnant on the shot.

I heard that it takes up to 6 to 18 months.

I take depo provera and I love the stuff. It's the best. I have no side effects, it's convenient, and the best part of all I don't get periods anymore. Oh and I haven't gotten pregnant.

To the person that said it made your periods heavier, it only does that for the first few months and then your period completely stops.

Im on the shot, just got one today as a matter of fact and I called before I went because I didnt feel like having it done today, the nurse said Today was my last day and I would be in danger of getting pregnant after today. You have a two week window in which to get your shot, after that you are subject to getting pregnant. So I guess the answer is any time after the two weeks in which you have to get your next shot.

well my hormones were messed up for ~1 year after my last shot. and now, 5 years later, i still my hormones are out of wack...

(but like hotchick said, one depo shot should clear your body after a 3-months--hence why you need to take it every three months...but the effects of having all that exogenous hormone in your body affects your natural hormonal signaling--hence why it takes about 6months to a year to get back on a "normal, regular" cycle)

I was told up to a year. When I took it, it caused uncontrollable, constant, heavy bleeding for well over a month. I stopped taking it and my doc gave me pills to regulate my period again. It's been 10 months and I'm still not back to normal yet. Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did.
