We keep our house between
75-77 degrees all year round.
We used to live in this old house
in MS that didn't have central heat
or air and it was miserable,
I don't know how we managed.
In the winter months, we were lucky
if the house was 60 degrees with
all the heaters on and in the
summer months it was 75 to 85 degrees at night,
but we always had a night breeze from the Gulf.
In the daytime it was anywhere from 80+ to as hot as 100 in the house. And this was with the ceiling fans and two industrial fans at each end of the house.
We now have a new house with central heat and air and I wouldn't want to live in a house that didn't have these wonderful conveniences.

It's all psychological. We complain about the heat because the heat aggravates our body causing it to sweat thus causing us to complain. In the winter, the cold aggravates our bodies and causes us to shiver causing us to complain. If you notice you house isn't 90 degrees as it would be in the summer time. we usally keep it between 72 - 75 degrees. Due to the extreme climate change, going from inside to outside in the winter we think it's as hot as summer indoors.

I know what you mean. It's crazy. I saw a tv news about the poor not having money to pay for heat in winter. The lady of the house complained that she didn't have enough money to pay for heat and wanted more state aid. The crazy thing is that she was wearing short sleeve shirt in the house. I pay for my own heat and I wear sweaters and sometimes ski pants. What the hell!

I don't do that. Some days in the summer it was over 30 Celsius. That was too hot for me. I turn on the heat to 20 Celsius or 72 F. That is all I need. I only have about 10 blankets as well. I can wrap myself with a blanket and save on my gas bill.

Some people do it to keep warm because it is cold outside & the cold comes into the house from the draft. In the winter I still like my house cool. Not too warm.

Us humans are strange creatures.
Some of us live in very hot areas, others live in very cold areas.
We are very adaptable.
We also become very acclimatised.
In the winter, if the temp. hits 18 Celsius (not too sure what that is if Fahrenheit) we start sweating and can't breathe.
Then, in the middle of summer, when it hits 35 Celsius and have become used to it, we go out in the evening when it's 18 and complain that it's cold!
Same with the temp. in your house.
Good morning.

Because in the summertime, it's nothing but heat and humidity when in the winter there's a mixture of heat and cool air to even things out.

Speak for yourself. For one, I never complain. To do so is to be a butt punk poopie. I set the AC to 75 during the summer and tolerate a heater setting of 65 during the winter. It doesn't make me Abraham Lincoln or anything, but it saves me some money.

Pault, second question again. First you have to establish that we DO try to keep the house as warm....
In North Queensland, like a lot of other places, we try to keep the house as cool in summer as it was in winter.
Parochial, my boy.

I often wonder that myself. We keep our thermostat on 70 in the winter, and it really feels cold to us sometimes, and 77-78 depending on the humidity in the summer.
I hear you Denise, I live in Texas City.
