In 1992 a man killed his wife as violently as every detail in the book. He claimed he killed her because that's the way the husband killed the wife in Patricia Cornwell's 1992 fictional best seller Post Mortrem.

Patricia Cornwell stated "a book does not make someone commit murder". what do YOU believe?

The book didn't make Chapman kill Lennon. But there is something about that book that does have an effect on young males. There was some kid went missing a year or so ago. They found his car thousands of miles from his home. In the car they found two books. One was Catcher. The other was Into The Wild. He's never been found. When I first read Catcher I really identified with Holden. People told me I reminded them of Holden. About ten years later I read it again. I found Holden to be whiny and self absorbed. He reminded me of me when I was 17.

several years ago, an outfit called "Paladin Press" published a book called "Hit Man".. the authours name was "Rex Freal" (that means "king of the beasts". it's actually a single mother in Florida). but this book, set out it exquisite detail how to kill someone, professionally, what kind of weapon, or silencer, and every detail was spelled out.
this book was used as the blueprint for the murder of a nurse, a little boy who was severely handicapped, and his mother. the father, and his hired hit man both went to jail for 3 counts of a whole bunch of different charges. so yes, there are books out there that will teach you how to kill. I don't know if Paladin Press still offers this one, but it's probably around somewhere.

the same, the person commited the act, not the book, or the writer, it was the man behind the horrible murder who's fault it is, yes the book planned it, but heck it's a book, if u see a movie about someone becoming god are u gonna go around being god from then on? i don't think so.

I must agree with Patricia here. People who are disposed to committing murder will usually blame everyone but themselves. It may give them an idea on the method, but they would already have planned to do it.Violent videos & movies are another matter, they have been proved to be connected to many grizzly crimes.

I believe that the man who read the book and then DECIDED to kill his wife is responsible for his own actions, NOT THE BOOK and most certainly not the author.

i dont personally think that a book would make someone commit murder. the man who did commit the murder may have gotten some ideas about HOW to comit a murder but it would not have convinced him to actually commit the crime. if it was a planed murder then it was permeditated and he has some issues. :)

I believe that he was looking for a way already, and that the book just gave him an idea on the 'how'.

People have an inclination. A book culd give ideas, but it does not tell a person to go and do this heinous crime
