When I put it in drive it's still there, but not as noticeable. It still sticks around when I put it in reverse when its warm its not as bad. Is there something under the hood near the steering wheel it could be? Also, I notice when the air is on I hear a slight rattle. Could they be related? And when I kick the fan speed up, there is a delay and then the air speed kicks up. Any guesses? It's running fine, so I'd rather not go in to a mechanic. It's a 1998 E320 Mercedes.

It could be the cat or a naff bushing in the shift linkage. The shift linkage has a nylon bushing in it that perishes after about 8 to 10 years. If you have some slop in the shifter, that's the cause.

The slow response to the change in the fan speed is normal. It's all computer controlled and takes a couple of seconds to respond to inputs.

All cars groan alittle when cold.Or do like me, find every plastic piece except ignition wires, and spay armorall on it.It will stop the sqeaks, and rattles.

i have ran into this in mercedes several times, until the transmission warms up it will somewhat rough in shifting,
what im betting with yours is you have one or more motor mount broke and this cause this vibration in reverse and once engine warms up its eighter gone or allot better........
does it also have a shaking when you trn the key off ?
if so its the engine mounts..
