I love Essay questions because you get to answer the question completely and do as much explaining of the answer as possible. I used to always hope for essay questions. I used to make essay questions out of true or false questions in college. I know it must have driven the instructors nuts. In my freshman year of college my Sociology instructor excused me from having to take my final because he said that he was using my last 5 tests to make up his questions for the Finals and saw no point in re-reading my answers, one more time.
Plus with essay questions, you also get to put in your opinions. Some people like them because you can pad the answer and some teachers do not read what you write just the amount that is written.
Usually one good paragraph is long enough for an essay answer.

As opposed to multiple choice, true/false, or short answer questions - Essay questions require an answer of 1 to 3 paragraphs. Most instructors look for an introductory paragraph, a body, and a conclusion. Try to check with your instructor (before test day) to find out exactly how long he/she is looking for.

Essay questions are questions that you have to answer in a least 4-5 sentences.

umm, i had to do an essay today, and the questions were

"what is the author's argument in the article/story, what is he talking about, and what is he against"

"describe the things he proves those statements with", like a chart? or like some statistics, or else what

"do that again with the second proof"

"conclude if the author of the article is right or wrong, and to what extend, where is he right and where is he wrong, to what degree" - your personal oppinion

others might include things like, if it talks about "high school sports" - tell them like the 3 benefits/badsides of them, and if you described 3 benefits - you must find one bad side of it like "injuries" and "deaths" and you must find some proof of that.

then just conclude your thing.

sorry long answer, but i have a D in my english class, so i hope i kind of helped? i dont know, im good in essays, i just dont do my work haha

A waste of time...God I hated those!

Example: You’re a teacher at a small high school. The new principal wants to know why the school should still have a library, since we now have the Internet. Some of your fellow teachers passionately defend the value of books; others say they’re just being old-fashioned. The principal has agreed to let the faculty decide, and it’s going to be a close vote. How would you vote, and how would you argue for your position at the meeting?

O.O Who even cares...really

Your question was an essay question. It requires more than a one or 2 word answer. It isn't an either or question. It isn't a fill in the blank question. It isn't a true false question.

It depends on how long the person who gives them wants them to be. Sometimes a paragraph sometimes a whole page. But you give as much detail as you can about the subject without running on or repeating.
