but had a respectable 3.34 ERA and 2,245 K's. I say yes, also yes to Bert Blyleven with his 287 wins, and over 3,700 K's and 3.31 ERA.

What do you think?

Definitely. He missed enough time with that surgery they named after him (reason one) to have won 300 games (reason two) and to have gone to even more post seasons (reason three). But Tommy didn't lap dance enough writers. So he might not make it. Writers suck at voting.

Not only did he have 288 wins, a 3.34 ERA, and 2,245 Ks, he also had 46 shutouts and achieved a lot of this after having surgery (now named after him). A great competitor and very worthy of being in the Hall of Fame.

No -- very little greatness -- but I'm foursquare behind the Hall inducting Dr. Frank Jobe at some point soon, the physician who pioneered the surgery now colloquially bearing John's name.

Tommy John surgery has had ENORMOUS impact on the game in very real ways. Among non-baseball personnel, Jobe ranks probably second (behind Marvin Miller) in lasting impression on the game and the players. That is exactly the sort of contribution that merits the game's highest individual honor.

He averaged just over 10 wins a season.

He also had 231 losses, 7 losing seasons, and lost 10 or more games 11 times.

That's not Hall of Fame material at all.

schufs - no, never heard of Cy Young, is he related to Neil Young? OF COURSE I know who Cy Young is, geeez. Are you comparing Tommy John to Cy Young? lol. Yes I know Young has the most losses ever, what about his 511 wins? If John had 320 wins, and 231 losses, then I'd agree he deserves to be in. Sorry you don't agree with me - but Tommy John just wasn't a great player - which is who deserves to be in the Hall, GREAT players.

Longevity does not make you an instant candidate for HOF...
For KRIS on here(who should know because he/she is a top contributor), LOSSES don't mean much because the pitcher who holds the major league record for most losses in a career is not only in the HOF but has an award named after him for outstanding pitcher of the year... ever hear of Cy Young?

TJ should be in for his knuckle-ball, no one else has had that kind of success with that pitch, hitters knew it was coming and still couldn't hit it. These guys were no sloughs either.
