Exalt: is a word which means to praise, glorify, honor, intensify, or heighten. It is most often used in religious contexts.
It shows the enthusiasm they have for God and what they are preaching about. Also calls the attention of the public.

I guess to get the point across. I went to one church and the preacher was screaming so loud I literally got a headache and left.

It's either the practice of the branch - geared to the average practitioner of that branch, or it's a combination of enthusiasm and the importance of the message they're trying to get across.
