I was diagnosed at 28 weeks.(I am 34 weeks now) This is my 3rd pregnancy and the first time I've got GD.
I put this down to 3 things..
1) My Mum is diabetic
2) I am overweight ( but this has been a real eye-opener..I am losing and will continue to lose weight after baby is born..I do not want to end up permanently diabetic if I can physically do something to prevent it)
3) I am 36 so classed as higher risk.
I have really tried to control it buy diet, but there is nothing that I am doing wrong, my body is just not producing enough insulin so I now have to inject 4 times a day (which sounds worse than it is)
I was already booked in for a c-sec (unrelated) at 39 weeks, but I have had my date moved forward a week because baby is a little large (but not seriously so)

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks. Some women have to take pills or insulin shots to control their gd, however for most women simply eating a well balanced diet and counting carbs is enough to control it.
As for the last answer you recieved that stated the gd causes women to have "big" babies...that is not true.
If you ignore the diabetes and eat too many carbs, then yes you could easily end up having a larger than normal baby and this usually means that you will have to deliver by C-section. However, if you take care of yourself and manage your diabetes your baby will be a perfectly normal size and you will be able to have your baby through a vaginal delivery.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.
I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Hey, I was diagnosed when they tested at 28 weeks (that is when they normally test pregnant women unless you have higher risk of having it: runs in the family or overweight or something like that). Well, throughout my pregnancy I was just diet controlled, never had to get on the pills or insulin so that was quite a relief! (so i know it is possible...you can do it too!) and if you keep your numbers in check your baby will be perfectly healthy!! (I was so worried that my baby would get too big and I would have to have a c section, or he would get stuck coming out...) but like i said, I followed the diet very well and I had a normal sized baby boy...very healthy....and they checked me after his birth and the GD had gone away....good luck and email me if you have any questions about it! Don't worry it IS VERY managable and you can still enjoy your pregnancy.

Because I am a diabetic, the gestational diabetes started in the first trimester (perhaps eight weeks into the pregnancy).

I was diagnosed around 20 weeks. I had to go on a special diet and check my blood sugar 3 times a day. I wasn't able to stick to the diet, just because it wasn't really feasible. It didn't cause any problems. They induced me 2 days early, but i had a wonderful drug-free birth, and they never said anything more about the gd.

my sister had it with her third which is really uncommon but it showed around 26weeks so she had her glucose test done early and then was put on a pretty strict diet till after the baby was born. Usually it is detected at the 28 week glucose test (which involves drinking a solution like lemonade and then sitting around for an hour and then having a blood test)
best of luck

I had a girlfriend who showed it starting at about 6 months, and another who showed closer to 3 months or so. It's such an individual thing. I feel lucky that I never got it, but both friends that I have had perfectly healthy babies and their health was fine after delivery.
Hope this helps (even though *I* personally didn't have it I thought I'd share with you).
