There are so many people who we either take for granted or just don't give a second thought to in life. It's only once they are gone that we begin to realize how special they were, how much they meant to us, and how lucky we were to have known them. We would give anything for one more minute with that person. Once they are gone the world seems like a more empty place, but while they were here we did not think this way. Why can't we value life before death occurs? Why do we never know what we have until it's gone?

Sorry, let me rephrase myself.

I am aware that not everybody is guilty of not appreciating people until they are gone. Obviously I do not know everybody in the entire world. I guess what I mean is why do SOME people do this?

I agree with your observations. Indeed it i really ironic that people really tend to forget the good deeds of man if he is still alive. We give the importance of his works after his death at the time the person could no longer hear the praises and thanks. The reason for this maybe is that we are so preoccupied with our minds that we are used to the presence of a person. It had place in our minds that anyway he is just an ordinary person that lives with us all day. We have this feeling of confidence that they are part of our ordianary life. That's why when sudden deaths comes we tend to be hysteric and cannot accept the lose of one's life. It is then too late for us to say all the good things and thoughts to a person.

I see man as lacking in these area. Humans like to think themselves as citadels of free will, subject to no laws of nature. Hence, there is no need to see ouselves as objects to explain for others.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

Good question!!

My naughty mind gives me a nutty explanation.......
Perhaps what happens when someone dies is that we are freed from any sense of insecurity opposite that person, since dead people can do no harm whatsoever. Once we feel so assured and secured with regard to the person, it is but natural for us to ignore any minus points and only see the positive side of that person. For instance we know that howsoever we praise the person, he/she is not going to take it for granted or start behaving haughtily or begin to look down upon us etc. etc....... all such negative thoughts haunt our subconscious, but once the person is dead, there is no cause for any of this.

There are many among us who appreciate people immediately after a good job is done. There are some who appreciate persons in their minds but do not speak out.

Whether a person is live or not, he/she always gets appreciation /abuse for good/ bad actions.

It is also a fact that we never criticize anybody after death even if they have done bad things. Elders advise that persons who left this world only deserve praise.

Because when people are gone we tend to only remember the good and romanticize the bad. We finally realize how truly special they were and that we will never have that again. The good thing is that it teaches us to value the ones who are in our lives because we realize that they too will someday be gone.

Because we take life for granted, when people die we stop and become sentimental.

If you get a chance go to youtube and search for the Eulogy Song by the Chaser's War on Everything.
It pokes fun at how we revere people that weren't that great in life.

Because when they are alive they mirror us and we only see ourselves in them, but when they die the mirror falls away and we see more of who they were and less of who we are. We get ourselves out of the equation. Now they can rest in peace.

I have never done this but I think it's simply a lack of wisdom and experience.

I'm not buying your presumption that everyone only appreciates people after they've died.

don't make too many assumptions about the rest of us, however people do mourn what they can never have again.
