They stand awfully close to the batter, so it seems logical it would happen fairly often... That would be funny to see. Especially the umpire laid out on the field.

It happens all the time. The oddest thing though was when Steve Yeager of the Dodgers got impaled by a piece of a broken bat that stuck in his neck.

It happens occasionally. It's called catcher interference if the bat hits the catcher during the swing and the batter is awarded first base. If it happens on the batter's follow through there is no base awarded, I'm pretty sure Mike Piazza had to get stitches after getting in head the by the bat follow through before.

Yup many times. When a batter swings his bat and misses. He sometimes can't control it and it will just carry on over and hit the
catcher. in the mask. the empire well this is bit different .In the minor one player didn't like the call so he decided he would throw his bat at the empire, which was really dumb.

Triplezero19 is pretty close, but it was Delmon Young, not Delwyn Young.

And yes it happens quite often, namely the catcher getting hit with foul balls, and long follow through. Or even on a the odd occasion of catcher interference.

Umpires generally get hit by balls fouled off by the batter.

Funny? No.

Pudge Rodriguez, 2000. Fat Mo Vaughn cannot stop his rotational momentum, and the bat circumnavigates his global girth and smacks Pudge in the glove thumb. Crack. Out for the rest of the season, crushing chances for a second consecutive AL MVP and snuffing whatever slim chances the Rangers had at winning the division.

A tampa bay devil rays player who was in Triple-A last year actually threw his bat at the umpire after being called out on strikes. I think it was Delwyn Young.
