My sister just told me that she has a lump in her breast.. and she has to get it biopsied.
She said she didn't tell anyone because she didn't think anyone would care..but she told me tonight.
So now I don't know what to do with the information...
She's 24, so shes an adult, but I feel like our mom should know this.. but at the same time I feel like she confided in me.. and I don't want her not to trust me..
So what do you think I should do?
Do I tell my mom, because its a serious health issue, or do I keep my mouth shut until I know how the biopsy went...
We have breast cancer in my family which is the only reason I'm so nervous, because now I feel all of the women should be getting check ups..
Any advice is appreciated..

I would keep it quiet. Your sister is an adult and this is how she has chosen to handle the information. She has chosen you to confide in. I would wait until she has gotten results from her biopsy to talk to her about how she chooses to share the results.
I hope her results turn out to be benign.

I think it is up to your sister to tell your mom or anyone else and you should respect her confidence.
I hope it turns out well. By no means all breast lumps are cancerous - some women have 'lumpy breasts' without having cancer - but your sister has done the right thing in having it biopsied. You are quite right, all the women should be getting regular check-ups, including you, but this applies to all women, regardless of whether or not there is a family history of breast cancer.

How old are you?

I would keep her confidence. She is getting it biopsied, so she doesn't want anyone else to be concerned. She opened up to you because you are her sister and she needed to talk to somebody. Do not mention it to anyone.

Find out the results, and IF its positive talk to your sister and tell the family TOGETHER. Its HER health issue, don't talk to others about it.

Talk to your sister and encourage her to tell your mom but do not force her. She may not be telling her so she doesn't worry more than she should. The biopsy could well be negative for cancer so I am sure your sister just doesn't want your mom to worry until they know for sure what is going on.

She probably doesn't want anyone to worry and expect the worse, since breast cancer runs in your family. Telling everyone might make her more nervous about the procedure. Just support her decisions and stand-by her.

Try not to stress...more often than not it will be harmless...respect her wishes not to tell anyone...its good that at least 1 person knows now for support, she shouldn't go thru it alone...if the results are not good, then it will be time to discuss breaking the news to family etc...it's a bit sad that she thinks no-one would care though...i was checked for a lump once & i chose not to tell anyone, except for my bf, until i knew what i was dealing with...i didn't want to worry anybody un-necessarily....and it came thru all clear...

IT DEPENDS ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR SISTER..PERHAPS IN THE PAST SHE HAS CONFIDED IN YOU, AND YOU THEN INFORMED YOUR MOM..IF THAT IS THE CASE , MAYBE SHE WANTS YOU TO DO IT AGAIN.. IF NOT, THEN PLEASE DO NOT INFORM YOUR MOM NOW..IF THE BIOPSY IS POSITIVE, THEN IMMEDIATELY INFORM YOUR MOM.. AT THIS POINT, IT IS IMPORTANT TO IMMEDIATELY TELL YOUR SISTER WHAT YOU INTEND TO DO...WHATEVER IT MAY BE.

I think you should keep it to yourself until the results are back.
