Insanity is a state of mind where you are a threat to yourself or others because your vision and viewpoint on the world is not in line with the accepted norm.

Unsane is a person who is insane and downright crazy.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insanity
“Insanity, or madness, is a general popular and legal term defining behaviour influenced by mental instability. It is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a deranged state of the mind or lack of understanding. Today it is most commonly encountered as an informal term or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense, and in the medical profession, the term is now avoided in favour of specific diagnoses of mental illness as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.”

Once upon a time an evil witch put a poison in the town well. All who drank from the well became insane. The town knight was alone hunting in the woods when this happened. He came back to find an entire town of insane people. Together they worried about the town knight who was behaving in a crazy fashion. Finally, not knowing the evil witch had poisoned the well, the knight drank from the well and he to went insane. Now the townsfolk rejoiced because their knight was sane once again.

Insanity is just a difference between your thoughts and opinions and the accepted ones of the world. Insane people are not well tolerated and are often shoved into mental homes to get them out of the way. The border line between insanity and genius is a very fine one.

Unsane or crazy people have lost touch with reality. They believe in things that are not true and are in serious trouble.

The problem with this definition is that I can put a lot of religious people into that category and they can do the same with me. I believe that the Book of Genesis is a myth and that the big bang and the theory of evolution are how the world was made and mankind evolved. Most of the scientific community agrees with me. However, those who believe in Creation are by my definition unsane and insane; they are downright crazy. They believe in things that are not true, despite what is as plain as the nose on your face. They are a danger to society because they are so misguided and wrong that they may be a threat.

However, the contrary is also true; according to their philosophy I am the one who is crazy, I do not believe in God, I do not believe the Bible is the actual literal word of God. I will go to hell because of this mistaken belief; I am the one who is a danger to society and my very eternal soul is in threat.

Of course I don’t believe in a soul so I am not that worried and even if I am wrong I refuse to believe that God is so mean that he will send me to hell because I questioned his existence. I think I am right and the religious folk are wrong. Of course I could be wrong as well, we will never know.

I to have a mental disability (I read your profile before answering this question), and I have been put in a mental ward because of it. However, at no time have I ever been truly considered insane, and any of the doctors or nurses that worked with me will agree to that; I never belonged in a mental ward. Of course I have a chronic pain problem that has no treatment, no cure, and no way to diagnoses it. There is no proof that I am sick and in great pain except for my word; and what good is a person’s word?
My disability is so bad that I can’t work and I have a string of job failures to prove it, as well as a successful lawsuit against the Social Security Administration. My doctors don’t think I am insane, that I am faking it or that I am lying when I say I am in great pain. But, if you were to look at me you would not see any of these signs.

Thomas Edison found over 100 ways not to make a light bulb. He didn’t know physics or electrical theory and created the light bulb with a “hit or miss method” of trying different things. He finally stumbled along the element tungsten that could be heated enough to glow and wouldn’t burn away under that current. This is an insane method of working and almost no inventor has ever used that method; he succeeded in blind faith in himself and what he was doing would work. He revolutionized society with his “insanity.” The “proper” way to invent something is to come up with a reasonable theory and test it until you find out the errors in your theory or prove that your theory is right. This is based on the scientific method and how most inventors work today and in the past.

Only an idiot or an insane person would just experiment at random until they finally found what they were seeking. Yet, no one ever came up with the light bulb before Edison, and it made him millions of dollars and a company that still exists today. Was he insane or just crazy like a fox?

In the end insanity is a different point of view; usually one that is not accepted by society, and can often makes the person who has that viewpoint a danger or a threat to society. There are really unsane people who hear voices when no one is there and see things that are not there. They are a threat to society and a danger to themselves and others, most of them need to be locked away. The question is how do you really determine who is who? The only way I do is to evaluate each person as they come along and let time tell me the truth.

In your profile you said that you had a brain tumor and that could have made you insane, or even unsane. Hopefully you have been treated so that you are now sane. Since you are able to function in society pretty well and you can use Yahoo Answers pretty well I think you are sane. Of course who am I to judge? I am just the crazy person on the other end of the computer. I feel for you pain and I have shared a great deal of it. I actually envy the fact that you had a tumor that caused your problem. At least you can point to an X-ray or an MRI screen and say, “There, that is proof that I am sick.” I can’t do that, Fibromyalgia is not that kind of disease and diagnosing depression is very hard to do. Since I have been hospitalized three times, had every test known run on me, and have 18 years of this disability and literally hundreds of health professionals who believe that I am not lying and that I do have a great deal of pain; I don’t think I am crazy. However, I have a chronic depression problem and I never make any claim that I am sane; just that I am not insane.
