This is a tough one, but I'm going to say no. Garvey was terrific, he was very durable and was a good fielder and from 1974-1980, he was one of the best contact hitters in the league. But, in 1981 he had an average season, something that would continue for the rest of his career. From '74-'80 he had 200 hits in all but one season (1977) and hit .300 in all of those seasons except for '77. But for the rest of his career he never hit .300 again nor topped 200 hits (the closest he came was 184 in 1985). Maybe if Garvey would have kept playing like he did in that six year span, he'd be a HoF'er, but he's not anymore.

Steve Garvey had a good career and put up good numbers. But the Hall of Fame is for the greatest and he just doesn't measure up. You have to look at all the other first basemen who played the game. All of the ones in the HOF have great statistics and are far better than Garvey.

Good grief no.

I am quite glad that his name finally dropped off the ballot after January's results.

Good hitter. Not a great one.

Terrible defensively. Oh, he could catch and scoop, but his footwork and quickness (and boldness) were garbage.
