Financial investments are those involving financial securities, such as stock, bonds, and options.

Other activities, such as real estate, business partnerships, and collectibles, are investments but they are not considered to be financial investments.

Finance is money. Invest is a purchase. purchase stock purchase land, purchase a home, these are all financial investments.
