The military portion of the GNP is about 4% including Iraq expenditures. Under Kennedy, it was about 9%. The country can easily afford the war so, other then the partisan politics and re-invigorating the now bald hippies, not much.

It hasn't. thats the problem with this whole war on terror. We were never mobilized. Bush told us to go shopping. That was his answer.
We've half-assed this war, both in Afganistan and Iraq, from the beginning. Our soldiers didn't have what they needed (armor, more soldiers, and a rational plan). We spend an incredibly low amount of money on these wars (compared to previous spending of GDP on wars, and even just cold war defense). Its sad.
There are 3,800 families who have certainly felt the impact, but the rest of us just aren't there with those honorable people.

It has only effected those Americans who are in the military or who know people serving.
The budgetary consequences of the war are arbitrary as the national deficit is a non issue. There is no real consequence of keeping a deficit.

the war on terror has given our enemies a local venue to attempt to kill americans, the major drawback for them is that rather than killing unarmed civilians they are up against the most well equipped and some of the best trained soldiers in the world. this has not worked out to well for our foes as our kill ratios are astronomical compared to theirs .further our target selection is much more refined than that of the enemy
so we are able to get way more bang for the buck as it were.
isn't it better to kill high ranking officers than random patrons of some disco or pizza parlor ? so in the insane business of terrorism perhaps once again the sleeping giant has been awakened ,so may god have mercy on their souls as we are unlikely to.

Prices are going up and pay is going down. The middle class is being eliminated. Many people have no health care and if these problems persist anarchy will follow.
