I have an interview coming up next week for a software developer position, I have my degree in chemistry and haven't had a lot of computer programing experience i've only had 1 semester of java. Is there a lot of experience required for the position.

These are typical questions:
"What languages do you have experience in? What project was your most successful? What did you learn from your project that was the least successful? Can you jot down a small program to accept N numbers into bins and add up the contents of the odd- numbered bins? Can you tell me how you could improve this short subroutine (which might or might not run)? Which formal courses have you taken in programming? What fraction of your development time do you spend on designing and what fraction on debugging? Do you prefer to program on a team or by yourself?"

- Instead of Chemistry related career, why do you want to be a software developer?
- What type of experience do you have as software developer?
- You have one semester of Java, how are you going to handle the software development with Java, C/C++, or other software language?
- How do you handle a software development project?

P.S One semester of Java is really not much at all, but will to learn and problem is the key. Good luck!

Since you have a degree in chemistry, prepare for an answer on why you want this job? They will definitely ask this question. You may want to give them a sample of java program you have worked on before. This will give them an idea that you do know some programming. Try to know the company itself.

Be optimistic! Good luck!

someone told me that they ask simple equations from high school that most college kids forgot. like the equation of quadratic equation what is the discriminant? or area formulas. and of course other normal interview question, that you can buy a book and study for. if your bad at making up answers as you go. but I am a junior in college I haven't apply it, this is just hear say.
