Definetly, you can. A certificate in Graphic or Web Design can be very helpful in finding a job in the field.

As far as just building up your skill set, just do some research to check out the programs and equimpent the school has. You don't want to sign up for a single course and find that the school does not have an entire program for certification.

I have a friend that enrolled in community college, because he heard they had a great graphics program. Problem was, that the school specialized in CAD coursework and, very little graphic design. The computer lab had a couple of dozen systems loaded with CAD software, and, only two with graphic design applications. (and one of them was a PC, loaded with CorelDRAW)

Absolutely!

Because in general, design and graphic related programs
are only built one way, so it's the same knowledge from school to book. Yes a degree always seems to help in the job search.

However, how you use these tools and what you are able to accomplish is up to your creative ability but if you have a passion you can do it!

I went to community college and took several classes on web design. I'm pretty proficient. You have to start somewhere. You can always increase your skills by learning from forums and through others as well as taking classes.
