I remember back then during a portion of my high-school days in Las Pinas, when me and my girl were out on a saturday night, a thousand pesos was usually enough for the both of us. This would mean that we got to enjoy a movie at Glorietta 4, snacks, taxi rides to and from home, a meal at Kenny Roger's Roasters (i know, that place ain't hip anymore) and coffee... for just a thousand peas. Well sometimes a bit more.

My recent visit to the Philippines last June showed me that this ain't possible anymore. A thousand pesos ain't even close to being enough for a decent meal for two at Sentro 1771, Italiannis or Bubba Gump. I never took a cab ride last June, but I'd bet it'll cost a fortune just for a one way trip from Las Pinas to Makati.

Oh by the way... trick or treat?!

Bopols, back in 1997-98, a liter of gasoline was around 16-18 pesos. Now it's fast approaching 50 php.

With a change in the price of oil, follows a change in the price of... everything else.

As a figure of speech, yes you could say that

But to be clinical about it, you have to have a reference point between when P100 was worth P100, and when P1,000 is the new P100. If it was your high school days vs now, would that be 10 years ago?

Because economic inflation has not turned that bad in the last 10 years. Actual inflation is only around 6-7% year on year, such that a P1000 - P100 correlation might be exaggerated. In economic terms, it is more like P1000 then is now worth only P500.

But let me reiterate, I agree when used merely as as figure of speech.

And PT, Sentro 1771 and Bubba Gump would be a notch or two higher than Roasters.

Well now you know how much it will cost to treat your YAP group out when you come and visit again.

I'm staying in Malaysia now...I haven't been there for 5 Years. But my mum,Would always come here for a visit. So she would always tell me about the increased price for everything! She would always say that our McDonalds Kid's meal are alot cheaper compared to the one in the Phils. As I can already buy 5 kid's meal for only 500 pesos.(Rm30)And if she were to buy it there for her Grand Children,It would cost her nearly 1000....I was infact planning for a visit there next 2-3 months. But I don't know how much money would i bring and enough for that journey.I wouldn't wanna be surprised un expectedly later....I just pity the people that less fortunate. If how are they even gonna survive it....And no actions taken by the "Goverment" in such a long time....

Yes. Before, i go shopping (grocery items) with 2k in my pocket ( I hate credit cards), i go home with 2 box-full of items that would be enough to feed me, my husband and my two kids for a good 15 days. But now, my budget for groceries soared from 2k to 5k, that's for about a week supply.
