Not at all. Teens are teens are teens, with typical undeveloped adolescent brains, as they have been for thousands of years. More exposed to the world maybe, not any more mature. Maybe a little more jaded, but that's a different matter. Like seeing your neighbors get shot to death on your street every day, eventually you hardly notice. But that doesn't mean you're a better citizen.

Not at all. I think the opposite in fact. Teens today live in a different world that's defenatly true. Todays' teen is faced with many horrifying things. Do they have the latest Ipod? What designer made their jeans? Zomg a math test!
10 years ago, and 20 years ago, teens were faced with many of the same things that kids are today, all the social status issues were there, the pressure to do well in school, the ever presend pressure to drink, or do drugs.
I go to school with people my age who are completely unworldly. They never had to wash their own clothes, they never had to pay a bill, mom and dad pays for tuition. they all have a cell phone an Ipod, some even have a car courtesy of mom and dad. I even lived with a girl who burned down our kitchen because she didn't have enough sense to watch a pot of oil she had heating on the stove.
Teens today are more spoiled then any other generation. Kids today are praised for doing mediocre. There's a huge boom in making every child feel special. They give ribbons to the teams who loose so they don't feel bad. More and more people are not learning the ability to take cirtisism.
Most North american teens live in luxury. They get 3 meals a day, have clean clothes to wear and by law have to go to school, so they receive an education. Instead of being grateful that they aren't living in a poverty stricken country where they can be executed for having an opinion they complain about a life that many people in the world could only dream of having.

Hmm, that's funny other answerers, because the age group that volunteers the most is 16-24. Hmm. I'm not sure if we are more mature than the teens 10 or 20 years ago, but we are certainly the most educated group of teens about the issues facing the world. I think most of us teens are extraordinary people, who can do extraordinary things in the community. We are teens nonetheless, so every once in a while we'll surprise you with breakdowns about absolutely nothing, like our hair. We're at extreme crossroads in our lives. Give us a break.

I think you're asking two different questions. "Socially mature" does not equal "Worldly wise." More socially mature? As a therapist working with kids, my answer is "No way." I agree with the other answer that mentioned teens (and children) being more "spoiled" as well as not dealing well with emotions, social relationships, and social decisions. I do think, however, that our society requires kids to grow up quicker today, so they become more "worldly wise" as a matter of self-protection. (Often the last spoiled generation aren't being socially responsible with their kids, causing the kids to fend for themselves in the world.

You gotta be stinking kidding me. No. Today's teens are less mature, and their attention spans are even shorter (I didn't think that was possible).
Plus they have this ridiculous notion that they can do everything in the world from a website.
I'm not hopeful. They only thing they all seem to be able to do really well is have sex.

I dont think so but I am from the older generation.(I'm 52) LOl Seems like each generation gets worse and worse. I dont think kids can stand on there own two feet anymore. They are spoiled. They couldnt survive another depression even if they seen it coming. LOL
My parents generation seemed more mature and planned better. I have 3 kids so I think I know. It is just observation over the years.

I don't think ppl are understanding your Q.
What I assume that you're talking about is like..we're more accepting of like gays, other races etc.
and if that IS what you're talking about then YES YES YES.
We're one of the most accepting generations of all time.
Probably because our censor level is pretty low and we've been exposed to different races, family types, religions etc. our entire lives, unlike other generations (especially the baby boomers) who were quite sheltered in their childhood. Of course this is just a generalization, and there are exceptions to any rule in society.

I think teens today are more open-minded. That is a good thing and a bad thing because it also means they are more acceptable of drugs and sex at a young age.

Teens today are more sociable than teens before, but they are not wiser than teens 10 years ago. Teens in all ages think they know more than they do.
