(SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't seen it.)

At the end, when she goes back to the maze and the captain sees her but not the faun... does that infer that she is crazy? That it is all a figment of her imagination?
Or is it more like "The Polar Express" idea, a person cannot hear the bell if they don't believe in Santa Claus?

It confused me at the end if it were a beautiful occasion; at the end when she died and is standing in the courtyard with her mother and father...

What was your response?

BEST ANSWER: the response that shows most thought and that I can actually understand.

In the commentary on the DVD, Guillermo Del Toro (the director) explained how he dropped hints to make you see that the magic was real. For example, Ofelia escapes unseen from a guarded room, apparently by using the magic chalk the faun gave her. About the scene in the labyrinth, he said that it was real, but the Captain was just incapable of seeing it, so I think your Polar Express comparison is right on.

I interpreted it as a fairytale ending and imagined she escaped into the netherworld..... yet for a 2d there, like on the area on the tip the place she´s conversing to Faun and keeping her littler brother...and the Captain got here and observed her conversing to what looked like skinny air...i did for a 2d ponder whether she grew to become into seeing her fantasies....if that grew to become into her get away and that possibly thats what the biggest plot twist of this action picture grew to become into....and that is exciting, yet no im exceedingly advantageous it grew to become into meant as a fairytale and so as a result had a.....very unhappy, yet a fairytale ending, in spite of the actuality that. Thats an truly super question by using ways. thank you! :)
